At Care Fertility, we are dedicated to making family possible for everybody. We understand the unique challenges that LGBTQ+ patients face in their fertility journey and are committed to providing the support and care needed to navigate these obstacles.
In 2024, queer people in the UK still don’t have equal access to IVF. Compared to their cis-het counterparts, queer couples face additional barriers to having a family. This is because queer couples must ‘prove’ infertility by self-funding rounds of artificial insemination before accessing IVF via the NHS. As a result, in some areas of the UK, LGBTQ+ couples may have to pay up to £25,000 before receiving state-funded fertility support.
With the 2022 Women's Health Strategy for England, NHS England vowed to remove these barriers. However, in practice, only four of the 42 Integrated Care Bodies (ICBs) responsible for planning health services in local areas have made this change as of April 2024. This means that equitable access to IVF for queer couples is still a ‘postcode lottery’ in many areas of the UK.
Without NHS support, LGBTQ+ individuals often to seek private healthcare options, which can be daunting. The cost, coupled with the emotional stress of navigating private fertility services, can be overwhelming. However, at Care Fertility we provide tailored fertility packages, to help mitigate the financial burden, and making fertility treatments more accessible and manageable for queer couples wishing to start a family.
