Finding out you're infertile: What next?

There is never going to be a nice way to find out you’re infertile. As kids and teenagers, we are taught how easy it is to conceive so it’s the last thing anyone expects. At Care Fertility, we're here to support you every step of the way and provide you with the best care and support to help you make a decision that is best for you, and that starts right here, with this step-by-step guide of what to expect:

Understanding your diagnosis
An infertility diagnosis will undoubtedly stir up a range of heavy emotions, and with those emotions come the questions. You’ll probably wonder ‘why me?’, ‘what can I do?’, and even ‘will IVF work for me?’. Understanding the reasons behind infertility can be such an important, and empowering, part of your fertility journey. Infertility is common, with 1 in 7 couples having difficulty conceiving. There are so many causes of infertility, which can vary from hormonal imbalances to structural issues. Your fertility specialist at Care Fertility will explain your diagnosis thoroughly, helping you make sense of it all.

Exploring treatment options
Once the initial shock of finding out you have fertility issues wears off, exploring treatment options soon becomes the next step. At Care Fertility, we offer a wide range of advanced treatments tailored to your unique situation:

In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF)
IVF is the most well-known fertility procedure, it is when eggs are retrieved and fertilised outside the body. This method offers hope for many who face fertility challenges – here's a quick guide to the steps of IVF treatment:

Ovarian stimulation: Medications are given to stimulate the ovaries to produce eggs.

Egg retrieval: The eggs are then carefully collected from the ovaries.

Fertilisation: The eggs are fertilised with sperm in a lab.

Embryo transfer: Once the embryos have developed, they are transferred to the uterus.

Supportive care: Medications may be prescribed to support the pregnancy process, especially to help implantation occur.

Other treatment options

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI): ICSI is a fertilisation method used during in vitro fertilisation (IVF) which involves injecting a single sperm directly into an egg. ICSI increases the chances of fertilisation for some patients.

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI): IUI treatment is designed to help a higher number of better-quality sperm reach the womb and is used in cases where there is a low sperm count or poor sperm mobility. IUI is less invasive than IVF and is usually done during the natural ovulation cycle.

Fertility medications: Hormonal treatments can be given to enhance fertility.

Considering donor options
For some, using donor eggs, sperm, or embryos is the best path forward. The choice to use a donor is common amongst those who have low-quality eggs or sperm or are older. Your specialist at Care Fertility can provide guidance on integrating donor options into your plan.

Planning your next steps
Your specialist will create a clear and comprehensive treatment plan that is aligned with your goals and is designed to give you the very best chance at success. At Care Fertility, we’re committed to providing you with transparent information and support at every stage of your journey.

Fertility treatments can be financially daunting – which isn’t ideal when you’re probably already feeling stressed. We’re here to help you navigate the financial aspects of fertility treatment.
