Complete Your Fertility Treatment Before Christmas – Here’s How

Written by Care Fertility Team | Oct 24

As the festive season approaches, many of us look forward to spending time with loved ones, exchanging gifts, and making memories. For some, the best gift of all would be news of starting a family. If you’re hoping to complete your fertility treatment before Christmas, it’s crucial to get started as soon as possible. By following the right steps from October through December, you can maximise your chances of wrapping up your treatment just in time to enjoy the holidays with hopeful news.

If you're wondering how to fit everything into a busy schedule, this guide will walk you through the key stages needed to complete your treatment by December 23rd.

Step 1: Start with a free chat with our patient enquiry team (Early October)

Your fertility journey begins with a free chat with our patient enquiry team. This is a friendly, no-obligation conversation to discuss your situation, answer initial questions, and provide advice on your next steps. It’s designed to help you understand the fertility treatment process and ensure you're comfortable moving forward. The earlier you have this chat, the sooner you can get started.

Step 2: Book your fertility consultation and pre-treatment tests (Mid-October)

After your initial chat, the next step is to book a full fertility consultation with one of our specialists. This consultation is essential for assessing your fertility health and understanding the best treatment options for you.

Before the consultation, you / you and your partner will need to complete some important pre-treatment tests, including:

  • Hormone blood tests to assess your reproductive health. (Female)
  • Pelvis ultrasound scan to assess the womb and ovaries. (Egg provider/Assigned female at birth, or those intending to carry a pregnancy)
  • Semen analysis to evaluate sperm health. (Sperm provider or Assigned male at birth)

These tests provide vital information that helps your consultant recommend the right treatment plan for you. To stay on track for a December completion, aim to complete these tests by mid-October. The sooner the results are in, the quicker we can proceed to the next steps.

Step 3: Receive your treatment plan and begin your IVF cycle (Early to Mid-November)

Once your consultation is complete and your test results are reviewed, your fertility specialist will work with you to create a personalised treatment plan. If IVF is recommended, the treatment typically begins with ovarian stimulation, which lasts for 10-14 days.

Before proceeding with treatment, you will need further blood tests and to complete all necessary consent forms – these must be done before a nurse planning meeting can take place to schedule your treatment.

Once all consent forms, blood tests, and nurse planning meetings are complete, if the menstrual cycle of the person hoping to get pregnant aligns, you can start the IVF cycle in early November, you’ll have enough time for the stimulation phase, during which you will be given medication which acts on the ovaries to produce eggs . You’ll have several clinic visits during this period to monitor your progress and adjust medication if needed.

Step 4: Egg collection and embryo transfer (Late November)

After ovarian stimulation, the next stage is egg collection, which will likely occur in mid-November. This is a straightforward procedure that involves retrieving eggs from your ovaries, ready for fertilisation in our state-of-the-art lab.

The embryos are then cultured, and depending on their development, your embryo transfer will take place 4 or 5 days after collection. By the end of November, you could be on your way to a successful embryo transfer.

Step 5: Pregnancy test (Mid-December)

After the embryo transfer, there is a short waiting period of about two weeks before performing a pregnancy test to determine whether the treatment has been successful. This test is scheduled for mid-December, giving you the chance to receive your results just in time for the holiday season.

Whether it’s celebrating the holidays with family or taking some quiet time for reflection, this can be a particularly emotional and meaningful time as you await your results.
